The Origins of ACTION Inc.

Each  participant  will  be  held  ACCOUNTABLE  through  CREATIVE  opportunities  and  experiences  full  of  TRANSFORMATION  and  IMPACT ,  while  working  to  OVERCOME  obstacles,  thus  producing  individuals who  will  NEVER-WAIVER  in  the  face  of  adversity.

ACTION,  Inc is  a 501c3  organization  created  by  a  group  of  five  mothers  in  Bowling Green,  KY, who  are  passionate  about  seeing  teens  in  our  area  succeed  at  whatever  they  desire  to  do.  ACTION   is  the  name  we  chose  because  taking  action is  more  than  just  talking  about  change—  it‘s  being  the  change.  

Executive  Director,  Sydney  Jones,  saw  a  need in  this  community  and  decided  to  do  something  about  it:

         “I  worked  at  a  community  center  a  few years  ago.  When  the  children  at  the  center  turned  13,  they  couldn‘t  come  back.  I  started  watching  them  hang  out  with  the  wrong  people  and  engage in  the  wrong  things.  A  couple  years  later,  I  was  an  intern  with  the  Court  Designated  Workers.  I  watched  some  of  the  same  kids  come  in after  committing  crimes,  becoming  truant,  getting  into  trouble.  But, it  didn‘t  stop  there.  I  became  a  well  known  face  for  a  foster  care  agency and,  unfortunately,  so  did  they.  Sometimes  you  enter  into  the  system  due  to  your  parents’  actions,  and  sometimes  it  is  due  to  your  own.  Those  kids  were  the  driving  force  behind  this  organization.    They  needed  me  then and  someone  needs  me now.  The  cycle  has  to  end  with  someone.  I’m going  to  take  action.”

• Assistance with academic & transitional fees
• Teaching & practicing of social & independent living skills (applications, interviews, budgeting, cooking, etc.)
